Syrian defectors 'buying weapons from army'


Al Jazeera has gained exclusive footage from inside Syria of the army defectors fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad's government. The Free Syrian Army is claiming that a steadily increasing number of defected soldiers are joining its ranks. The group is believed to number anywhere between 1000 and 25000 troops, divided over 22 battalions spread across the country. The soldiers say their former comrades are selling them weapons. Al Jazeera's Charles Stratford reports.

Streams of blood, mounting deaths choke Syria


The Arab League has renewed calls for the Syrian government to end bloodshed and allow more observers in the country. But the group, monitoring the implementation of a peace plan, stopped short of asking the UN for help. The Arab League mission itself has been heavily criticised for failing to stop the violence. 'Massacre' in Syrian opposition stronghold


About 200 people have been killed by Syrian security forces who launched an offensive against defected troops in the northwestern opposition stronghold of Idlib. The latest fighting has prompted the Syrian opposition to call for an emergency meeting of the Arab League. The Syrian National Council also wants an emergency UN Security Council session to discuss what they call the Assad regime's massacres. Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports.
